About
I'm Alastair McDermott - I help business leaders get real value from AI
Not hype. Not tools demos. Real, measurable change in how your team works.
The short version
I'm an AI consultant based in Ireland. I work with directors and senior leaders at businesses of 15 to 150 people - the size where AI adoption can genuinely transform capacity, but where nobody has time to wade through vendor hype and figure out what actually works.
I've worked with more than 15 businesses across Ireland and the UK - finance teams, logistics operations, professional services firms, healthcare organisations. The pattern is the same: hours of repeatable work that doesn't need a human, opportunities nobody has had time to look at properly, and teams that are capable of more once the right tools are in place.
What I've built and done
- Author of The Beginner's Guide to AI for Business - a practical guide written for non-technical leaders
- Host of a podcast on AI adoption for small and medium businesses
- Delivered AI training programmes to teams from 5 to 200 people across multiple industries
- Designed and delivered the AI curriculum for a national business development programme (IRDG)
- Built AI automation systems that have freed up thousands of hours of team capacity
How I work
I don't parachute in with a slide deck. My approach starts with understanding your business: what your team actually does all day, where time is genuinely being lost, and what's realistic to change. From there, I recommend the smallest intervention that creates the biggest result.
I work across three modes: the AI Opportunity Audit (a structured session that maps your best opportunities with ROI estimates), training workshops that get your team using AI tools confidently, and Co-Builder engagements where I'm embedded with your team to design and build solutions together.
Everything I build, I build so your team can maintain and extend it without me. The goal is capability transfer - you end up more capable, not more dependent.
